Ingredients
- 1 medium head cabbage, chopped or shredded
- 50 ml (about 3½ tbsp) olive oil
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- Red pepper flakes (or paprika), to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage:
Remove any damaged outer leaves. Cut the cabbage in half, remove the core, and slice thinly or chop roughly (depending on your texture preference).
- Heat the oil:
In a large skillet or wok, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Cook the cabbage:
Add the cabbage to the pan and stir to coat evenly with the oil.
Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and starts to caramelize slightly on the edges.
- Season:
Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (for a little kick).
Stir well and cook another 2–3 minutes.
- Serve:
Enjoy warm as a side dish, or as a light main meal with bread, rice, or grilled protein.
Tips & Variations
- Add a splash of lemon juice or vinegar for brightness.
- Toss in a clove of minced garlic or half an onion, sautéed at the start, for more flavor.
- For a heartier version, stir in scrambled eggs, cooked sausage, or bits of bacon.
