
Seafood Lovers’ Dream: Gourmet Cassolette Recipe
What is a cassolette?
A French-style creamy seafood bake filled with shrimp, crab, scallops, or fish, topped with cheese or breadcrumbs, and baked until golden and bubbling.
Elegant, comforting, and incredibly flavorful.
Ingredients (4 servings)
Seafood (mix & match):
- 200 g (1 cup) shrimp, peeled
- 150 g (¾ cup) crab meat or imitation crab
- 150 g (¾ cup) scallops or white fish cubes (optional)
Sauce:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup seafood or chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream (or half cream + half milk)
- 1 tbsp white wine or sherry (optional but amazing)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Salt & pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Pinch cayenne (optional)
Topping:
- 1/2 cup grated Gruyère, mozzarella, or parmesan
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
- Parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the seafood
Lightly season shrimp/scallops/fish with salt & pepper.
In a pan with a little butter, sauté for 1–2 minutes ONLY—just until they begin to firm.
Remove and set aside.
(They will finish cooking in the oven.)
2. Make the creamy sauce
In the same pan:
Add 2 tbsp butter + chopped onion → sauté until soft.
Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Add flour and stir for 1 minute to form a smooth roux.
Slowly whisk in broth until thickened.
Pour in cream, Dijon, spices, and wine (if using).
Simmer 2-3 minutes until silky and smooth.
Taste and adjust salt & pepper.
3. Combine

Gently fold to keep the shrimp and crab intact.Pour mixture into small ramekins or one casserole dish.
4. Top & Bake
Sprinkle cheese (and breadcrumbs if you want a crunch).
Bake at 200°C / 400°F for 12–15 minutes.
