Condensed Milk Dinner Rolls
Ingredients
For the Dough:
-
All-Purpose Flour: 3 ¼ cups (plus extra for dusting)
-
Instant Yeast: 1 tablespoon
-
Milk: 1 cup, room temperature
-
Condensed Milk: ½ cup (sweetened)
-
Salt: ½ teaspoon
-
Unsalted Butter: 3 tablespoons (45g), softened
-
Egg: 1 large, room temperature
For the Glaze:
-
Melted Butter: 1–2 tablespoons (to brush on after baking)
-
Optional: A little extra condensed milk mixed with the butter for a sweeter finish.
Detailed Instructions
1. Mix the Liquid Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer), combine the room-temperature milk, sweetened condensed milk, egg, and instant yeast. Whisk until the condensed milk is fully dissolved and the yeast is incorporated.
2. Form the Dough
-
Gradually add 3 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour and the salt to the liquid mixture.
-
Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
-
Add the softened butter one tablespoon at a time, kneading it into the dough.
3. Knead
-
By Hand: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until it is smooth, elastic, and no longer sticking to your hands.
-
Stand Mixer: Knead on medium-low speed for about 5–7 minutes until the dough clears the sides of the bowl.
4. First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap or a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
5. Shape the Rolls
-
Gently punch down the risen dough to release air.
-
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions (for a standard baking dish). Roll each portion into a tight, smooth ball.
-
Place the balls into a greased baking dish (as shown in your first image), leaving a little space between them for expansion.
6. Second Rise
Cover the dish and let the rolls rise again for 30–45 minutes. They should grow until they are touching each other and look very puffy.
7. Bake
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Brush the tops of the rolls lightly with milk or an egg wash if you want a deeper shine.
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes until the tops are a deep golden brown.
8. The Finishing Touch
Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter (as seen in your images). This keeps the crust soft and gives them that beautiful bakery-style sheen.
