Banana Chocolate Chip Cake

Ingredients

  • Bananas: 3 medium-sized (ripe)

    • Note: Use 2 for mashing into the batter and 1 for slicing on top as shown in the image.

  • Eggs: 2 large

  • Sugar: 100 g (divided into two portions)

  • All-Purpose Flour: 1 ½ cups (190 g)

  • Unsalted Butter: ½ cup (115 g), melted and cooled

  • Chocolate Chips: ¾ cup (approx. 130 g)

  • Baking Soda: 1 tsp

  • Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp

  • Salt: A pinch

Detailed Instructions

1. Prepare the Pan and Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Line a round baking dish or cake pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

2. Mix the Wet Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, mash 2 of the bananas until smooth.

  • Whisk in the 2 eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and one portion (50 g) of the sugar until well combined.

3. Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and the remaining portion (50 g) of sugar.

  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet banana mixture. Do not overmix; stir just until no flour streaks remain.

4. Add the Chocolate

  • Gently fold in about ½ cup of the chocolate chips into the batter.

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

5. Top and Bake

  • Peel the remaining banana and slice it in half lengthwise.

  • Place the two halves face-up on top of the batter (as seen in the first image).

  • Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips around the banana slices.

  • Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Cool and Serve

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before lifting it out.

  • Slice and serve warm to enjoy the melty chocolate chips.
