Cook time: 10 minutes
-
Servings: 4–6 patties
Ingredients
-
Cabbage: 2 cups (150g), finely shredded
-
Egg: 1 large
-
All-purpose flour: 1/2 cup (60g)
-
Grated cheese (optional): 1/4 cup (30g)
-
Onion: 1 small (50g), finely chopped
-
Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
-
Seasoning: Salt and pepper to taste
-
Oil: Olive oil or vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cabbage
Start by finely shredding the cabbage. If the cabbage feels very moist, you can sprinkle it with a pinch of salt and let it sit for 5 minutes, then squeeze out any excess liquid to ensure the patties stay crispy.
2. Mix the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated cheese (if using). Add the egg and the flour, then season with salt and pepper. Stir everything together until the cabbage is well-coated and the mixture holds together.
3. Fry the Patties
Heat a thin layer of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Use a large spoon or measuring cup to scoop portions of the mixture into the pan. Press them down gently with a spatula to form round patties.
4. Cook until golden.
Fry the patties for about 3–5 minutes per side. You are looking for a deep golden-brown crust and a tender center. Once finished, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Tips for Serving

Dipping Sauce: These pair beautifully with a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt mixed with a little lemon and dill.
-
Add Heat: For a spicy kick, add a pinch of chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the batter.
-
Extra Protein: You can add finely chopped ham or cooked bacon to the mixture before frying.
