🍰 Instructions
Make the Cake
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a round or rectangular cake pan.
-
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the butter and granulated sugar. Beat on high speed for about 4 minutes, until pale, light, and fluffy.
-
Slowly drizzle in the vegetable oil and mix until fully incorporated.
-
Add the eggs and egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
Add the vanilla extract and sour cream. Mix for about 3 minutes until smooth.
-
In a separate bowl, sift together the cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
Add the dry ingredients to the batter, alternating with the milk. Mix on medium to high speed until fully combined.
-
Continue mixing for 3–4 minutes until the batter becomes silky smooth.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
-
Let the cake cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Chocolate Buttercream
-
In a stand mixer, whip the butter on medium-high speed for 3 minutes until creamy.
-
Add the cocoa powder and vanilla extract. Mix on high speed.
-
Gradually add the powdered sugar, scraping down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
-
Add the milk and salt, then continue whipping for about 7 minutes, until light, fluffy, and smooth.
🎂 Assemble the Cake
-
Once the cake is completely cool, spread a generous layer of chocolate buttercream evenly over the top.
-
Sprinkle with confetti for a birthday cake or leave it plain for a classic look.
